Once there was a little bunny who wanted to run away.
So he said to his mother, "I am running away."
"If you run away," said his mother, "I will run after you.
For you are my little bunny."
从前有一只小兔子，他很想离家出走。
于是他对妈妈说："我要跑走了。"
"你要是跑走了，"妈妈说，"我就去追你，
因为你是我的小宝贝呀。"
"If you run after me," said the little bunny,
"I will become a fish in a trout stream
and I will swim away from you."
"如果你来追我，"小兔子说，
"我就变成溪里的一条鳟鱼，
游得远远的。"
"If you become a fish in a trout stream," said his mother,
"I will become a fisherman
and I will fish for you."
"你要是变成溪里的一条鳟鱼，"妈妈说，
"我就变成捕鱼的人，
把你钓上来。"
"If you become a fisherman," said the little bunny,
"I will become a rock on the mountain, high above you."
"你要是变成捕鱼的人，"小兔子说，
"我就变成高山上的一块石头，让你够不着。"
"If you become a rock on the mountain," said his mother,
"I will become a mountain climber,
and I will climb to where you are."
"你要是变成高山上的石头，"妈妈说，
"我就变成爬山的人，
爬到高山上去找你。"
"If you become a mountain climber," said the little bunny,
"I will become a crocus in a hidden garden."
"你要是变成爬山的人，"小兔子说，
"我就变成躲藏花园里的小番红花。"
"If you become a crocus in a hidden garden," said his mother,
"I will become a gardener
and I will find you."
"你要是变成花园里的小番红花，"妈妈说，
"我就变成园丁，
还是会找到你。"
"If you become a gardener," said the little bunny,
"I will become a bird and fly away from you."
"你要是变成园丁，"小兔子说，
"我就变成小鸟，飞得远远的。"
"If you become a bird and fly away from me," said his mother,
"I will become a tree that you come home to."
"你要是变成小鸟飞得远远的，"妈妈说，
"我就变成树，好让你飞回家。"
"Shucks," said the bunny, "I might as well stay where I am and be your little bunny."
And so he did.
"Have a carrot," said his mother.
"唉，"小兔子说，"我还不如待在这里，做你的小宝贝吧。"
他就这么办了。
"来根胡萝卜吧。"妈妈说。
